About the role:

We’re looking for a passionate SHP colleague ready to step up and take on an exciting secondment as a Clinical Practitioner with a housing specialism, working in partnership with the South London NHS Foundation Trust. Running until June 2026, this is a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in the NHS, working directly with people on probation who are at high risk of harm and living with complex interpersonal difficulties. It’s a hands-on role where you’ll build specialist expertise, grow your clinical confidence and see the impact of your work ripple across services and lives.

You’ll be at the centre of the Integrated Community Pathways Service (ICPS), providing specialist housing support to people on probation during the desistance and stabilisation phase of their journey. You’ll work side by side with Probation Service London colleagues, supporting individuals with personality difficulties to move forward safely and sustainably. Your insight and housing expertise will also shape how professionals work, as you deliver consultation, advice and training to NHS and probation staff and partner agencies. From male and female Housing and Support Services (HASS) to community hubs across North and South London, you’ll be the link ensuring accommodation is a cornerstone of wellbeing and progress.

You’ll be fully supported within the NHS, with line management from the Trust, regular clinical supervision and opportunities to learn from experienced psychological therapists. This secondment offers far more than experience - it’s your chance to lead from the front, strengthen the bridge between housing and health, and contribute to the Offender Personality Disorder Pathway. For someone ambitious, curious and driven by purpose, it’s a chance to take your SHP career to the next level while helping shape lasting change for Londoners.

When you are completing your application please answer the 3 areas below and please put n/a to areas 4, 5, 6 and 7:

  1. What draws you to this secondment, and how will your skills, experience and approach add value to this role and to the partnership with NHS and Probation colleagues?
  2. Describe a time you went above and beyond to achieve a lasting positive outcome for a client — what did you do and what difference did it make?
  3. What do you see as the biggest challenges when working with people on probation experiencing multiple disadvantage, and how would you approach overcoming them?
