The Single Homeless Project (SHP) works to prevent homelessness and support socially excluded people to transform their lives. Each day, across all London boroughs, and now expanding beyond these, our staff work to tackle the underlying causes of homelessness. From providing support in to people in crisis to enabling men and women take the final steps towards independence and employment, we make a difference to 8,000 people every year.
Over the years SHP has grown and developed. We have specialised in delivering services which respond to people with the most complex needs, including relating to mental health, multiple substance use, entrenched homelessness and offending behaviour. We have pioneered new ways of working and built support to meet changing requirements. This has ranged from piloting in England the now widely regarded Housing First model, to spearheading a multi-agency approach to working with people with complex and multifaceted needs; and from innovative and effective support to access the housing market and employment opportunities, to supporting Syrian refugees to establish a new life in this country.
Amongst people who use, commission and fund its services, SHP has developed an enviable and well earned reputation for its integrity, quality, resourcefulness and effectiveness.
Despite SHP’s remarkable achievements, the needs which it was established to meet forty years ago have if anything increased. We are now seeking a new Chair to work with the Board and Executive Team as the organisation sets a new long-term vision and strategy to ensure that we make the greatest difference in the years ahead.
The ideal candidate will bring experience of working collegiately to set long-term high impact strategies. You will bring the insight and experience to ensure robust modern and effective governance, together with an intuitive ability to foster the right blend of support and challenge to the Chief Executive and the Executive Team. You will combine an alignment with our values and aims with the commercial focus required to promote our long-term sustainability.
It has been a privilege to serve as the Chair of SHP. I am sure that the right candidate will find the role, and the opportunity which it provides to engage with SHP’s work and to help steer it into the future, to be highly motivating and fulfilling.
If you recognise yourself in this description and find upon reading this pack that that you are inspired by SHP’s potential to enable people to transform their lives, then we are very much looking forward to hearing from you.
